Blue and Powerful Dental Join Hands to Introduce a Novel Dental Protection Experience

(Hong Kong, 26 October 2023) Blue, Hong Kong's first digital life insurer, announced its collaboration with Powerful Dental, a third-party health management and insurance technology service company equipped with advanced technology, to bring a new dental protection experience to all Hong Kong citizens. Blue has launched the market's first personal dental insurance "WeMedi GBA Dental Protector D1", covering dental clinics in 9 cities in the Guangdong Province of the Greater Bay Area and more than 80 cities in the Mainland*. With the support of Powerful Dental’s robust dental service network, it offers high-quality dental services at over 600 designated dental clinics nationwide, supporting Hong Kong citizens to obtain comprehensive dental protection and take care of their oral health early.

According to the Dental Council of Hong Kong (as of 24 July 2023), there are currently about 2,500 general dentists and about 300 specialist dentists in Hong Kong. The ratio is lower than the World Health Organization's recommendation (i.e., the minimum dentist-to-population ratio in industrialized countries should be 5 dentists per 10,000 persons), reflecting that the dental services in Hong Kong are insufficient to meet the market demand. On the other hand, with the resumption of normal travel between the Mainland and Hong Kong earlier this year, the trend of Hong Kong citizens seeking medical treatment in the Mainland has surged, especially for dental services.

In view of this, Blue has launched "WeMedi GBA Dental Protector D1" to provide the public with an alternative on dental treatments. This plan provides four major categories of dental protection, including preventive treatment, basic treatment, complex treatment, and accidental treatment. It offers comprehensive dental protection, unlimited consultation times, and an annual total coverage of up to RMB 15,000. Even if the dental treatment charges exceed the coverage, the plan also provides discount benefits, aiming to alleviate the burden on customers.
